Evaluating “Safe in the City” (2022): Strengthening Youth-Led Action for Safer Communities in Sierra Leone
This is an evaluation report of the project Safe in the City, by Dreamtown, YDC-SL, and YMCA Sierra Leone, documenting a youth-led response to sexual and gender-based violence across Freetown, Makeni, and Kono. The evaluation highlights progress in empowering young women, strengthening community awareness, and fostering collaboration among youth groups, non-formal education institutions, and government stakeholders. The report also offers key challenges and recommendations to deepen impact—calling for evidence-based prevention strategies, stronger safeguarding measures, and continued investment in women-led youth groups.
Evaluating “Ghetto Go Green” (2023): Green spaces and climate action in Kampala
The Ghetto Go Green project between Dreamtown and Network for Active Citizens engaged youth in Kampala’s ghetto communities through urban sustainability initiatives. The evaluation found the project to be relevant, effective, and efficient, addressing key social and environmental challenges . Through urban farming, micro-vertical gardens, and plastic waste recycling, the project empowered youth to earn incomes, improve food security, and reduce crime rates. Beneficiaries reported increased access to fresh vegetables, cleaner environments, and reduced flooding due to better waste management.
Evaluating “Spaces for Youth” (2021 + 2024): Community youth spaces in Sierra Leone
The project implemented by Dreamtown and Youth Dream Center, has supported the establishment of youth spaces in nine communities in Sierra Leone. The centers serve as hubs for meetings, training, and community decision-making. They also support health, education, and awareness programs, boosting collaboration between youth and community leaders.
