CREATING SPACE
FOR YOUNG PEOPLE
IN CITIES

Welcome to Dreamtown. We’re a Danish NGO working for the wellbeing of young people in cities. We work in slums, which are home to more than one billion people worldwide. Together with local grassroots, we create spaces where young people can feel safe, be creative, and dare to dream.

URBAN
SIERRA LEONE

Dreamtown has been active in Sierra Leone since 2010. Our interventions target fragile urban areas across the cities of Freetown, Makeni, Magburaka, and Koidu.

WORK

motivated by challenges - guided by dreams

Creative space

In the urban slum young people have little access to safe and conducive public space. We support the development of creative urban space which can spark an idea, ignite a dream, bring people together and equip young people with knowledge.

Activist space

Grassroots create cracks in the concrete. They challenge dominant structures. We support young aspiring activist and local grassroots organisations to take the lead in shaping their community and make their voice heard all the way to the City Mayor's Office.

RESILIENT Space

Cities are fragile and the wellbeing of young people is at risk when disasters strike. We work towards safe and resilient urban environments for youth. This includes making the physical environment adaptive towards climate change and people better equipped to protect their community if a disaster strikes.
