Dreamtown has been active in Sierra Leone since 2010. Our interventions target fragile urban areas across the cities of Freetown, Makeni, Magburaka, and Koidu.
motivated by challenges - guided by dreams
Our core development approach is space making. In partnership with local grassroots and activist youth, we transform slums into inspiring environments which foster creativity, ignite dreams, bring people together, and equip young people with knowledge.
In partnership with researchers, students, and academic institutions, we engage in solid data collection. The research we do focus on the state of youth wellbeing in urban slums. We use this knowledge to guide how we work and engage in evidence driven advocacy.
In partnership with multi-media professionals and young local documentarists, we develop urban love stories. Through participatory storytelling, we investigate what the good city life means to young people. We use these stories to reframe the often negative narratives that dominate our understanding of slums.
