Dreamtown’s work takes place in urban slums across Africa. The current focus of our projects are cities in Sierra Leone, Zimbabwe, and Uganda.
HOW WE WORK
Dreamtown’s work is anchored within the three strategic pillars of research, action and stories. Each pillar contributes toward increasing the wellbeing of young people in cities.
In partnership with researchers, students, and academic institutions, we engage in solid data collection. The research we do focus on the state of youth wellbeing in urban slums. We use this knowledge to guide how we work and engage in evidence driven advocacy.
The core development actions we undertake focus on creating space. In partnership with local grassroots and activist youth, we transform slums into safe and green environments which foster creativity, ignite dreams, bring people together, and equip young people with knowledge.
In partnership with multi-media professionals and young local documentarists, we develop stories that investigate young people’s perspective on life in the city . We use these stories to broadcast the voice of young people and to reframe the often negative narratives that dominate our understanding of slums.
