SAFE SPACE
Violence, insecurity and discrimination are some of the major challenges that young people face living in cities - especially young women. Together with young people, we create safe and inclusive space where young women can participate in community life. Our Safe Space programme focuses on three thematic pillars.
We support the development of safe space and inclusive spaces designed by and for women. Spaces where women can build community around urban change.

Case: In Kampala, the women-led organisation HADE runs a civil society hub with a key focus on women-led urban design.
We support safe and inclusive learning spaces where young women build technical skills to boost income and independence.
We support female entrepreneurs who take action in their communities. Female entrepreneurs are supported directly to grow their businesses.

Case: At Youth Dream Centre Sierra Leone, young women access basic education and technical skills training in tailoring, cooking, and IT and media. They also learn about violence prevention and response.
Case: Aunty Effy has a beauty salon in Freetown. In addition to running a business, she trains and mentors girls who have been in prostitution and are at risk of violence.
